			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><em><strong>TMC</strong></em></span> has a busy next 14 days.  Super busy.</p>
<p>We both started our pre-photo Shoot with <a href="http://www.facebook.com/NatalieMinh.LA" target="_blank">Natalie Minh</a> diets on Monday of this week.</p>
<p>Jay was on the road eating pre-made protein pancakes out of plastic bags layered with Almond Butter in between client visits while battling the blazing 117&#8242; temperatures of Phoenix.</p>

<p>Anh was at home raising the <span style="color: #0000ff;"><em><strong>Muscle B&#8217;s</strong></em></span> and maintaining her conditioning with <a href="http://www.vegashot.com/" target="_blank">Hot Pilates</a> and sessions on the stationary bike.</p>
<p>She kept up with her diet as well and is looking really good about 11 days out from the shoot.  Daddy continues to beam with joy at Mommy&#8217;s dedication even as all hell breaks loose around her with the Muscle B&#8217;s constant need of attention.</p>

<p>Our diets are very simple right now and small portions.  Lowered kcals and Higher Protein/EFA&#8217;s is the order of the day.  Both of us eat about 10-13kcals per pound and cycle up and down accordingly based on training and intuitive feel.  If we&#8217;re starving or glycogen depleted from an incredibly hard <strong>HIT</strong> workout, we&#8217;ll add a few more carbs by eating another Oat Bar or splitting an extra sweet potato.</p>
<p>Last night we found this new <strong>High EFA Flax Granola</strong> that is low in sugar that can be used for post workout carb re-feeds.  Or even a late night carb meal with some water and casein protein powder to spike up thyroid/BMR.  Just have to make sure you don&#8217;t eat too much.</p>
<p>Because we&#8217;ve been doing this so long now, we don&#8217;t really need to measure everything out but recommend it as a safe and scientific practice for any of our readers new to dieting or competing.</p>
<p>We&#8217;ll eat like this up until next Friday including this weekend.  We&#8217;ll have some flexibility to eat salads with protein if we&#8217;re out and about tomorrow and Sunday with the Muscle B&#8217;s or perhaps a Vegas Pool Party or two. <img src='http://www.themusclecouple.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>In fact, our goal is to take a lot of pictures from this last weekend of pool parties and then do a <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong><span style="color: #0000ff;"><em>TMC</em></span> Mega Summer Blog Pictorial</strong></span> with all of our best photos of the summer.  You won&#8217;t want to miss that.  Trust me.</p>

<p><strong><a href="http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=688413501" target="_blank">Greg Nigro</a></strong> who is majorly involved in the launching of a Brand New Fitness Product and Company:<a href="http://www.vicorefitness.com/vicore-core-bench-pro.php" target="_blank"> <strong>Vicore</strong></a>.</p>

<p>They manufacture a kick ass weight bench which works your core and stabilizer muscles indirectly while lying down on it.  They are also coming to market with an Ab Bench/Board soon.</p>
<p>In <span style="color: #0000ff;"><em><strong>TMC&#8217;s</strong></em></span> opinion this product is NECESSARY in just about every commercial gym in the world.  It truly represents an advancement in training technology.  (They also make similar products for home based gyms as well.)  Go Greg, keep killing it brother!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><em><strong>The Muscle Couple</strong></em></span> has really been after it the last couple of months.</p>
<p>After a lot of &#8220;family drama&#8221; earlier in the year, Mommy and Daddy have really focused inward and taken our training to another level.</p>
<p>We had planned on competing only in November at the <strong>Muscle Mania Fitness Universe Event</strong> but since Anh started <a href="http://www.vegashot.com/" target="_blank"><strong>Hot Pilates/Yoga</strong></a> she&#8217;s attacking cardio from a completely different level.  Daddy is enormously proud of Momma and her new found love of HIT cardio.</p>
<p>The results have been AMAZING and justification for Anh competing this upcoming weekend in LA at the <strong>Miss Fitness Hollywood Contest</strong> @<strong>The Grove Los Angeles</strong>.  (The contest is part of the <strong><a href="http://www.mybesthealthportal.net/fitness-and-exercises/general-fitness-articles/shape-up-america-tour-next-stop-the-grove-in-los.html" target="_blank">Shape Up America Event )</a> </strong></p>
<p>As we usually do when detailing our Contest Prep, here is how Anh&#8217;s diet is structured for this week.  We&#8217;ve made some slight tweaks due to her not competing in Figure but Bikini.</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Monday-Day 1 of De-Carb Phase</strong>
<ul>
<li>5-7 Feedings of Cubed Ribeye with Sea Salt and Olive Oil Almonds</li>
<li>1.5 Gallons of Distilled Water</li>
<li>Hot Pilates for 90 Minutes</li>
<li>Day 1 of Depletion Workout</li>
<li>20 Minutes of Mod Intensity Cardio on Upright Bike Post Depletion Workout</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><strong>Tuesday-2nd Day of De-Carb Phase</strong>
<ul>
<li>Same Food and Water</li>
<li>Hot Pilates for 60 Minutes</li>
<li>Day 2 of Depletion Workout</li>
<li>20 Minutes of Cardio Same as above</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><strong>Wednesday-Last Day of De-Carb Phase</strong>
<ul>
<li>Same Food and Water</li>
<li>No Pilates (running really low on Muscle Glycogen and don&#8217;t need Catabolism)</li>
<li>Day 3 of Depletion Workout(Likely 1 Set of 25 Reps and only 1 Rotation)</li>
<li>Cardio Depending on how she looks/feels</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><strong>Thursday-Re-Carb with EFA&#8217;s and Lean Protein Only</strong> (Because she isn&#8217;t posing and there is really no need to &#8220;Super Glycogenate&#8221; Anh will reintroduce low glycemic portion control carbs at every meal before 6PM to refuel muscle glycogen stores but at the same time maintain low insulin and high glucagon to keep her body maintaining maximal leanness.
<ul>
<li>5 Feedings of Steamed Chicken/Tillapia, a Small Boiled Yam and Asparagus.  Her last meal after 6PM will not contain a Yam but only Protein and Asparagus.  Anh will have a teapoon of Udo&#8217;s Oil (7 gms of EFA&#8217;s @ every meal to make sure she gets enough EFA&#8217;s.  If she is starving at night she will have one or two small &#8220;baby spoons&#8221; of Almond Butter.  Same Water (1.5 Gallons)</li>
<li>No Pilates(we&#8217;ll be on the road early Thursday on our way to LA)</li>
<li>No Training</li>
<li>Potentially 45 minutes of Low Intensity Cardio at night depending on condition</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><strong>Friday-Re-Carb</strong> (Almost Mirror Image as Thursday with exception of Drinking only 1 Gallon of Distilled Water--So many people screw up regarding Water Intake and Restriction.  The body needs as much water as possible to continue to minimize it&#8217;s production of Aldosterone (More on that in an upcoming post)
<ul>
<li>No Pilates</li>
<li>No Training</li>
<li>Potentially 30 Minutes of Low Intensity Cardio depending on Condition(We might be walking the Santa Monica Promenade/Venice Beach Strand with the girls too and that should be more than enough)</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><strong>Saturday-Show Time</strong>
<ul>
<li>Eat Normally as Thursday and Friday.</li>
<li>If flat or low muscle glycogen, glass of Red Wine about 20 Minutes before going on stage.(Calm Nerves) along with some Simple Sugars like Raisins/Gummy Bears.</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
<p>That&#8217;s her diet.</p>
<p>Anh&#8217;s supplements are minimal.</p>
<p><em><strong>Multi Vitamin/Mineral</strong></em>, <em><strong>Bone Up</strong></em>, <em><strong>Folic Acid</strong></em>.  The only thermogenic she&#8217;s using is <strong><a href="http://www.myslimquick.com/products/slimquick-ultra-packets" target="_blank">Slimquick Ultra </a></strong>powdered drink supplement she adds to her water.  The packets help dull her appetite and give her energy during Pilates/Training.</p>

<p>This type of training is not for the faint of heart and definitely requires a spotter/training partner to get maximum benefit and make every rep and second under tension count.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong><em><span style="color: #0000ff;">The Muscle Couple</span></em></strong> just returned to Vegas after attending the <strong>Fit Expo in Los Angeles </strong>over the past weekend.</p>
<p>We had a great time and took many photos we&#8217;ll be uploading to the site within the next couple of days.</p>
<p>One of the highlights of the trip was <strong>Anh</strong> being challenged to step up and perform chin ups on a new apparatus called the &#8220;<a href="http://www.grapplegrip.com/" target="_blank">Grapple Grip</a>&#8220;.</p>
<p>Chin ups for women are hard in and of themselves as they require a great amount of upper back, biceps and core strength.</p>
<p>The <strong>Grapple Grip</strong> makes the movement even more difficult as it intensifies the force production required from the forearms in addition to the muscles mentioned above.</p>
<p>We had just watched multiple men (some in great shape) step up to the <strong>Grapple Grip</strong> and fail before even performing 3-4 reps.</p>
<p>Here is the video (apologize for the impromptu nature and quality)of <strong>Anh</strong> stepping up (without any practice, warmup or understanding of the device) and executing reps on the Grapple Grip.</p>

<p>The <strong>HIT</strong> Difference is pretty stark.</p>
<p>Notice the slower, controlled cadence and improved form.  There is no bouncing or allowing the force of momentum to power through a single rep.</p>
<p>Watch how we utilize <strong>static holds</strong> and focus on <strong>peak fiber contraction</strong> at the apex of the concentric portion of the movements.</p>
<p>Now contrast this with what you see (and likely do yourself) upon entering gyms/athletic clubs every day.</p>
<p>If you walk into a gym and you see people training in the fashion we&#8217;re training in the first 3 videos (Pre-HIT), imagine how much more productive they/you could become by remembering to incorporate 3 specific things in your training:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Slowing Down</strong></li>
<li><strong>Focusing on Form </strong></li>
<li><strong>Eliminating Momentum</strong></li>
</ul>
<p>Training in <strong>HIT</strong> fashion requires great concentration. The body must learn to adapt both physically and neurally to &#8220;one set to failure&#8221; protocols.  But after a couple of months of focus and repetition the results speak for themselves.  It helps to enlist the services of a master <strong>HIT</strong> trainer initially in order to learn the proper technique (form, breathing, muscle fiber contraction etc) necessary to make <strong>HIT</strong> productive forever.</p>
<p>The difference to our physiques has been amazing.  Now that we&#8217;re eating a &#8220;normal diet&#8221; again (not competing or needing to be lean for months) we&#8217;ve each added some additional muscle mass in places we&#8217;ve always been striving for improvement.</p>
<p><strong>&lt;NOTE&gt;</strong>If you&#8217;re a regular viewer of our <strong><a href="http://www.themusclecouple.com/exercise-video-library" target="_blank">Exercise Video</a> </strong>section make sure to check them out one last time before this weekend.  Everything &#8220;Pre-<strong>HIT</strong>&#8221; is about to be removed.   We&#8217;ll be adding a bunch of <strong>HIT</strong> Video&#8217;s to replace them at the same time.</p>

<p>Thankfully we&#8217;ve been able to maintain our training schedule and keep up with our new <strong>HIT</strong> Workout. (Which is absolutely amazing)</p>
<p>When you have a few moments, you should check out these videos of <strong>Mike Mentzer</strong> putting <strong>Markus Reinhardt</strong> (a much younger version)through his <strong>HIT</strong> workout.</p>
<p>We&#8217;re only inserting his Chest/Back training videos on the site.  To view the other body part HIT videos, search around on Youtube.</p>
<p>It will definitely give you an idea of the kind of intensity, focus and determination required to maximize the results of <strong>HIT</strong> training.</p>
<p>It also provides a look into the mind of <strong>Mike Mentzer</strong> and what separated him and his methodologies from &#8220;accepted dogma/truths&#8221; about resistance training.  Pay particular attention to what he is saying as there is wisdom for beginners and advanced trainees alike.</p>
<p>We definitely don&#8217;t agree with everything and clearly <strong>Drew Baye</strong> along with many other HIT Jedi&#8217;s have done a tremendous job clearing up some of his misconceptions/beliefs.</p>

<p>After a very long layoff from the competitive ranks, he has sacrificed enormously at the age of 40 for the last 4.5 months to dial it all in.</p>
<p>What has resulted with less than 9 days to go is <strong><em><span style="color: #ff0000;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!</span></span></em></strong></p>
<p><span style="color: #ff0000;"><span style="color: #000000;">Last night we got a chance to train together and the videos and photos that came out of it are &#8220;pretty good&#8221;.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #ff0000;"><span style="color: #000000;">The male half of <strong><em><span style="color: #0000ff;">TMC</span></em></strong> while no slouch from a physique standpoint, just can&#8217;t compete with his better half nor Markus. </span></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #ff0000;"><span style="color: #000000;">Both of them are genetically blessed but equally hard workers. </span></span></p>
