Is Your Desk Job Making You Fat?

The Muscle Couple just read this recently released theory on the rise in obesity.

We feel compelled to offer our own commentary as well.

Your Desk Job Is Making You Fat, Study Confirms

Some excerpts from the article:

“People eat better and exercise more today than they did in the 1970s, yet obesity rates continue to rise,” study researcher Carl-Étienne Juneau, of the University of Montreal, said in a statement. This seeming contradiction might be explained by changes in work habits, he said.

But people have become less active at work over the last three decades, and this decreased activity may partly explain the rise in obesity, according to the researchers from the University of Montreal.

The Muscle Couple statement:

Are you FARKING SERIOUS?

People are getting fatter because they aren’t as active when they are working?    GIVE US A BREAK!!!!!!

Yes, there is some logic to the idea technology affords humans a more sedentary existence. People perform  less “manual labor” because of tech innovation.

But people are getting fatter even though they exercise more and eat less kcals for one primary reason!

THEY EAT LIKE SHIT!

Food littered with HFC’s, Transfats, Gluten, nitrites, processed fast food and colas.

Where are the vegetables, the lean proteins and EFA’s?

Oh, wait a minute-

“You mean that stuff isn’t in the “easy to find and cheap to buy “stuff I’m already eating?”

If you go to the gym and train hard (using resistance or cardiovascularly) and then go home and your post-workout nutrition consists of half a pizza, a bag of gummy bears and Diet coke, you’ve got problems.

Now compound that by doing it repeatedly over your entire adult life.  Eventually in your 30′s and 40′s your insulin sensitivity gets shot to hell and your BMR slows to a crawl.  Of course continuing to exercise and eating less isn’t going to help by then.

Hopefully you just read between the lines a little and get the gist of our take home message.

The type of food you eat does matter and it’s high time our “Nutritional Experts/Scientists/Dieticians” figure it out.
